Work notes: Getting started as a content strategist in a library
Published:
I’m starting a blog here. Nobody touch anything. I started as a Web Content Strategist remotely at the beginning of the month. Next month, I’ll be moving to Iowa.
What I’ve done so far, by the numbers
- 14 work days
- 8 1-on-1s with my supervisor
- 8 1-on-1s with people who aren’t my supervisor
- 11 group meetings, with an average around 5 people per meeting
- 2 meetings with too many people to count
How I’m feeling
Though I wish I had a bit more time to synthesize, I’m feeling good overall about accomplishments so far:
- meeting most library staff
- communicating clearly and repeatedly
- setting, sharing, and meeting goals
What I’m reading
- Kristina Halvorson’s Content Strategy for the Web, 2nd edition
- Lauren Pope’s toolkit for audits
- Heidi Burkhardt’s (and team’s) documentation for U-M Library’s redesign
